“Brosset Collection”: The History of Early Ac-quisitions of Japanese Manuscripts and Woodblock-Printed Books by the Imperial St. Petersburg Academy of Sciences and by the Asiatic Museum (1791–1864)

The article presents the results of a study history early acquisitions Japanese manuscripts and woodblock-printed books to Imperial St. Petersburg Academy Sciences by Asiatic Museum from 1791 1864, previously known under collective name Brosset collection. main sources for were catalogs Chinese I. Busse (1798), P. Kamensky S. Lipovtsev (1818), M.F. (1840, additions until 1864), as well lists some housed at Archive Orientalists IOM, RAS, branch Russian Sciences. method work involved comparing titles mentioned in each or with stored today RAS. As result, it was found that Collection made up least nine donors, including valuable collections Daikokuya Kodayu, J.A. Stutzer, Russian-American Company, P.L. Schilling K.I. Maksimovich.
